FAQs

What can I expect at an event?

Shift Summit is a balanced mix of structured time (speakers, spotlights, and guided conversations) and unstructured time (downtime and meals). We work to provide robust connections together and reflective time alone. And there is plenty of flexibility. If you crave more alone moments, you can find them. And if you’re looking for a conversation, there is one waiting for you in the kitchen.

Why am I only being charged $200?

The $200 is a deposit to participate at a Shift Summit event. Upon acceptance, you will need to pay the balance to confirm your spot.

Do I need to bring food?

All food and drinks will be covered while you are at Shift Summit. If you have dietary restrictions, please indicate it as you register. If you know you are going to have that midnight craving for your favorite cookie (we won’t tell), you may want to pack those with you. Our pantry is generous, but we may not have your go-to brand.

Why do you select participants rather than let anyone in?

Shift Summit events are safe places for people to feel vulnerable in order to make room for growth. With such small groups, an outlier can impact the space significantly.
For example, if 8 of the 10 people signed up for the Transition Retreat are recently divorced and they express in their registration that this is a trigger, we might accept only the recent divorcees and pivot the conversation and weekend exercises to help this specific group work through this topic. This kind of flexibility allows the coaches to do more nuanced work and for the attendees to get the most out of the time together.

Will I have time to work out?

There is not a gym onsite. However, you will wake up with us two mornings. One morning we offer yoga. The other morning feel free to go walking or running. There are great trails close by. Each day’s schedule allows you to find time for a quick workout.

I’m nervous about attending alone

Shift Summit is a generous, kind place. Most people arrive with a little trepidation, so you are not alone. Great strides are taken to make people as comfortable as possible as quickly as possible. We’ve got you!

What should I wear?

Shift Summit is a strong mix of work and play. Unless otherwise indicated in your confirmation email, your clothes for the weekend should be comfortable.

How does payment work?

When you apply for a Shift Summit event you will be charged a $200 deposit. This holds your spot while we wait for all registrations to come in. If you are accepted into the cohort you will be sent an email with additional instructions. You will have 72 hours (3 days) to confirm your registration and make your final payment. If you choose not to complete the registration at this point, you forfeit your deposit. If you were not accepted into the cohort, your deposit will automatically be refunded.

Can I bring my furry friend?

The small bed and breakfast where we hold Shift Summit does not accommodate pets. Please leave your pal at home.

I did not get into my first-choice retreat. Should I try for another?

Yes! Not being accepted to a retreat could happen for many reasons. Please watch for the same topic or choose your next favorite that is already on the calendar. We want you to be a part of this growing community!

I’ve decided not to attend, can I get my money back?

The refund policy is strict. As soon as the cohort is created, purchases are made on behalf of the group based on the information given to us. Please be sure you can attend the event when you apply.

Are any Shift Summit retreats co-ed?

Shift Summit retreats are currently geared toward women. But hold tight! We are working to create retreats for men and for couples. Please watch the website for more options.

I might have to leave in the middle of the event, is that OK?

A good deal of the work (and play) is done by being together over a period of time. Every effort should be made to arrive on time and stay through the full event. If you do leave early, we’ll miss you.

Where are Shift Summit events held?

We’ve partnered with a boutique, resort-like property in downtown Salt Lake City for our next few events. But we are in talks with outstanding properties across the State. As each event location is firmed up, it will be listed on the event page.
Do you have a property, or know of one that would be a good fit for Shift Summit? Let us know!

I have an idea for a new event

If you are looking for a topic not listed, or if you have a community that needs an event, or if you are a teacher or coach that can help develop a weekend, we want to hear from you. Connect with us and let’s start planning.

How do I know if I got into the cohort I signed up for?

As soon as all the applications are in for an event, the Shift Team will curate the best collection of attendees based on the answers in the applications. Once those decisions are made, all applicants will receive an email letting them know about next steps.

Where do I park?

There is parking on the property. Instructions to the parking lot are found in an email you’ll get just before your retreat. You will not need your car for the weekend. Feel free to arrange an Uber or Lyft or have a friend or family member drop you off.

Will I have time to sight see in SLC or to visit with friends?

We have arranged a variety of exercises throughout the retreat. We encourage you to take advantage of them all. If you must leave, we can not make up the work you miss. Feel free to arrange activities before or after the retreat.

Who can I talk to?

Want to talk to a person before you commit to the registration process? No problem. Send us a note and we’ll give you a call.
